CPTI conducts research into new technologies for inspection and non-destructive testing using ultrasound, parasitic currents, and magnetic methods, as well as developing onboard software and hardware, sensor development, and designing remote monitoring equipment. Created in partnership with Petrobras, CPTI has already given rise to different kinds of intelligent pigs, equipment capable of inspecting oil and gas pipelines to locate and measure faults. The CPTI team has a 20-year partnership with the Petrobras Research Center. One outcome of these activities has been the creation of a company, Pipeway Engineering, which started its life in the PUC-Rio business incubator and today does business in Brazil and other countries.
